EDITOR’ S NOTE
Hello and a very warm welcome to the first edition of Intelligent Retail. tech, part of the Lynchpin Media brand. It is truly exciting to be launching a new magazine focused on the innovative technology that transforms the retail world. It is for all retailers across our regions – at the C-suite level and for the wider team – to read the latest news, updates and advice about the technologies which are making an impact in the retail sphere.
On the front cover of our first edition, we feature Brett Parker, Property Director at GAIL’ s, a chain of bakeries across the UK, selling bread, cakes, pastries, breakfasts and lunches. When Parker joined the company, security systems across the locations were inconsistent, with each store operating its own set-up. He chose Verkada’ s cloud-based platform to oversee multiple bakery locations efficiently. It has allowed him to address petty theft at stores, streamline bakery operations and enhance customer experience and sales. Turn to page 14.
Our Expert Column this month is written by Ben Leitch, Digital Content Manager at Lynchpin Media. He talks about the high cost of cybersecurity hesitation, following the cyberattacks on Marks and Spencer and The Co-operative Group. He explores how the vital importance of acting quickly during cybersecurity crises cannot be overstated, as perfectly exemplified by the differing actions of the two UK supermarket giants. Turn to page 18.
The feature on page 24, hears from Monica Eaton, Founder and CEO of Chargebacks911, who discusses a recent decision by a federal appeals court, which has temporarily halted the US Federal Trade Commission’ s‘ clickto-cancel’ rule. This was a measure designed to make it easier for consumers to cancel subscriptions and recurring payments. However, while this delay may be seen by some businesses as a stay of execution, it would be a mistake to view it as a licence to continue outdated, friction-filled cancellation practices.
And from page 35, Richard Evans, UK & I Country Manager for WSO2, explores how robust digital identity solutions are providing the essential foundation for retailers to thrive in a dynamic and competitive market.
We also have an Intelligent Technology section dedicated to all the latest technology developments in the retail world and a page called Project Round-Up which features news from across our regions.
I hope you enjoy the magazine and if you’ d like to contribute to any future issues, please do not hesitate to contact me by emailing rebecca @ lynchpinmedia. com
